The Original Soffe Short
Crafted in the early 80s, the iconic Soffe short is as relevant today as it was then. A classic 50/50 cotton/poly jersey that is durable enough to last through high school and college, yet soft enough to sleep in. The short features classic vents on the side which existed in just about every short Soffe made at the time (and there were plenty of them - I counted over 16 options in one catalog). Originally called the "Lightweight Athletic Short" and designed as a unisex gym short. And shortly thereafter it became the P.E. classic.
The waistband became the defining component. While the side vent detail at the bottom of the short is a classic Soffe design, the roll-down waistband is Soffe's signature. The heat applied label on the classic white waistband, when rolled down highlights the classic Soffe logo.
There have been so many knock-offs, as there always is with a good thing. Yet, there is a deeply rooted connection to the original, classic, Soffe short that gives it such staying power. The 80s P.E. short transitioned into the cheerleader's must-have practice gear. Most of us have some memory, and drawer full, of Soffe shorts. I remember working as a lifeguard, and walking into Belk specifically looking for the Soffe logo on roll-down waistband cotton shorts. I rolled them twice, layered over my suit, for the long summer days ahead.
Now, the Soffe short is available in a wide selection of sizes from little girls, juniors and curves and in more colors then ever before. Our favorites are the new heathers which are perfect for the incoming fall season.
